2002 ls1 rear main seal leak

I had a what I thought was a rear seal leak. I ended up ordering a new cover because it was cheaper than just the seal and gaskets. When I pulled the cover the leak actually turned out to be the gasket leaking from the oil galley area that feeds the valve train. This sees oil pressure so when it starts leaking it just gets worse. It seems like GM could have double sealed that area where if it leaked it could have gone back into the motor but that is not the case. It is right above the seal so it will appear to be the seal itself. It my case it was not. I will never just replace the seal it will always be a new cover. I paid about $45 for the cover will gaskets and bolts. When I did it the oil pan was on and I put all the bolts in and tightened it up slowly until it was tight and backed off on the bolts and tightened the bottom bolts going through the pan first then the bolts in the back. It's been over 2 years and the motor does not leak a drop. No alignment tool used.

oil leak
So if the rear cover or rear main leaks will there be oil in the bellhousing for sure? Same with the cam sensor on top of the rear cover, will it flow into the bellhousing? My housing is 100% dry.
