Felpro arent cometic gaskets. we all know what you mean, but since they are 2 separate companies with diff designed gaskets, its important to keep the separate. you mean MLS.
We are now offering an mls gasket that is specifically designed for the "notched deck" heads. They are only for a 4.8, 5.3, ls1/6 engine. Bore size wont work for 6.0 or larger BUT we are working on that. .053 compressed thickness also.
They arent expensive either. not even $60 a piece.

Because the cometic gaskets are good for any other thickness, but these mls gaskets will work just fine for nearly any application and enable you you use the 862 heads as well, which was a huge issue before. if you read the thread youd see why. The ONLY options before were the composite gasket set that isnt available in the immediate future or buy cometics that are $120+ for the set. This is the first affordable option and opens up the ability to use them on 6.0 engines where the gmpp gaskets would not work.
We have SCE gaskets which are copper...but havent sold enough to even keep track of. These...well they are in high demand

I read the thread but didn't catch that the coppers were mentioned..
Yea the only guys I've seen using copper since I was a kid were all old sprint guys..
Funny I just did a head gasket on my Daughters Honda and was mildly surprised that the MLS was the only thing out there.. besides the SCE.. When I took the head in to get it surfaced the guy mentioned that he kinda liked MLS gaskets because they seem to be good for his business. LOL..
When I was using them they were not near as fancy as SCE they were a plain sheet of copper. Heck we cut our own for the old tractors,, if I recall we used .020 copper shim stock.
I was over focusing on the availability of options for the older style gaskets..

They werent mentioned because, being serious, they arent relevant.
The only reason we sold the sce copper was based off either old school guys or recommendations from them.
With new gasket design and materials, there isnt a reason to not use them, esp when they are affordable.
Quite often the old school guys used them because they were touted as being reusable. I cant say whether that was true or not, but they also liked cast pistons over hyper e as well.
Being stuck with old scho thinking doesnt translate to now days anymore. Even on big blocks and small blocks.
I just rebuilt a 4cyl perkins and the stock head gasket was a steel shim, the felpro replacement was MLS.
Diesels use mls now also, unless using a straight machined steel shim.

I just wanted to add my $.02...on this issue if it helps.
I am doing a stock rebuild on an early 5.7l LS1 ..from a '99 Firebird I think. I don't remember what heads they are, but they are early heads with the notches or recesses in them, near the 3rd or 6th exhaust valve.
I bought a head gasket kit from Summit which included Fel-Pro 9284PT gaskets. I know there are people on this forum that say these gaskets WORK with early, notched heads. There are others that say they don't work . Fel-Pro themselves DO say they work for '98- '01 LS1's in their online-parts catalog, but neither they or Summit mention the notched issue.
Mahle has published a paper on this specific issue, and claim in a research paper that they redesigned their Mahle "original" MLS gasket to seal the older LS heads with the notches. The paper is listed here:
https://www.mahle-aftermarket.com/me...ss-ga-g-24.pdf
Per the paper, the Mahle 54442 head gasket should work with the older, notched, 5.7l heads. It is available from Autozone, Advanced Auto and many other outlets at $45 ea. (sold individually)
I am going with the Mahle gasket

Our gaskets are $52 for the set. So you can save a considerable amount of money with them. And they have been pushed to pretty high power numbers with no issue.
