Default What heads and cam combo ?

HI

I have a 2002 B4C stock ls1 with LS6 intake . its starting knocking today , I think its in the heads ,so planning on taking this as a opportunity to upgrade them instead of fixing my 241s hardware . what combo would you recommend. I have a Built Trans and a FTI sbs 3200 street brawler convertor ,and only exhaust upgrade is muffler delete . Looking to spend no more than 1000 for both .

ALSO would it be worth upgrading the hardware on my 241 heads and camming it ?

You'll be a bit tight on your budget doing everything "the right way", but can be done. For your budget I'd look for a set of good used 243 or 5.3 heads, and do a cam kit with dual springs / pushrods, as well as a fresh set of lifters and trays while the heads are off. I always push people to spend the extra couple hundred on a good Melling oil pump and new timing chain while you're there as well. Don't forget to budget for gaskets, seals, and hardware as well. We sell our budget cam kit that includes the cam/springs/pushrods, as well as the lifters, gaskets, and anything else that you need if we can be of assistance for you!

parts alone to do just a cam will be $1k. If you have a knocking in the heads, the only thing it could be would be rocker trunions. simple fix. Knocking is usually down in the bearings. $$$$$
