Default 862 heads

I have 2 sets of 862 heads the 1999 heads have the "notch", the other set (year unknown) don't have the "notch' what year did GM get away from putting the notch in these heads? Thanks

i've seen them in 2001 4.8 trucks. I think it's when whatever motor plant ran out of their stock of them

Does not have anything to do with what plant they came from. 862s from 99-01 have the notch and must use a graphite gasket. 2002 and later do not have notch. In 2002 GM changed to MLS gasket across the board . If you want to run MLS gsk on a notch head it can be overcome , I believe Felpro makes a MLS that will seal now. Oh and a lot of 853s have the notch also.

/\ Did you weld those up or have it done ? How much was the weld and mill for those . You have knock down the weld before they will mill , don't you ?
