Default basic smog legal build (cali) numbers inquiry...

ok so ... finally have some money saved. i've decided to stick with my ls1 obviously for reasons of wanting to stay 100% within cali smog regulations .... so, the very basics are (95% carb oe numbered/approved components) afr 205 heads, smog passable mild cam, fully rebuilt motor probably just gonna go with a forged rotating assembly in case i wanna go cali legal procharger later on, fast 92/92 setup, 3600-4k yank & 3.73 gears (have a rear end avail. from a friend built to handle up to 600whp) all parts necessary to replace with the build, dyno tune & the simple things that can be removed/replaced to pass smog (lt headers/lid/cai/). i'm honestly just looking to make 400ish to the wheels & as good power throughout the band - not concerned with a high peak number. what do you guys think is possible at the wheels both hp & tq with this build ? & for those that do not know (many do know already) the erod ls3 is NOT legal to swap into our cars if they are 1996 or newer regardless of the oe carb number - i've researched & talked to a ref myself, otherwise i would definitely just go that route & slap on a procharger with the tune that comes with it & be happy.

What if you were to swap in an LS3 or L99 from a Vette or late Camaro? Those ARE smoggable for whatever year the donor car was or before, as I understand it. I could be wrong...
It's the E-rod engines or crate engines that are not legal for anything after 1995.

yea i had heard similar .... i'll try & get more info from cunningham down south or force fed in sac - i understand it is supposed to be from a newer year of the same car - i.e. there is no newer trans am or firebird (i have a 2002) - so not sure but maybe an ls3 from a 2008 vette would qualify as it is also a gm vehicle with an ls platform .... anyone know about that feel free to chime in

I don't think it would have to be a 2010 or newer Camaro; a similar year Vette could be a donor car. You could conceivably use an LS7 and be legal(LS3/L99 would still be my choice).

If you are doing a forged rotating assembly you might as well stroke it.

would love to stroke it, just not in the know as to whether that would affect ecu readings & somehow not allow it to pass smog? i know there's no way to visually fail from a stroke but i guess i'll find all this out once i talk to a shop

I don't know that the FAST 92 has a CARB EO #... but the FAST LSXR 102 definitely does.
