LS1 BLOCK vs LS6 BLOCK
hey guys i was talking to a couple of z06 owners at z06vette.com and asking them about my block and the notch and showed the pic of my block and they said that there LS6 block looks just like mine
you can view the thread here:

and here is a pic of an ls6 block showing the notch that i got from a member on Corvette Action Center Forums

That "notch" just looks like part of the machining process as the LS1 blocks and the LS6 blocks have it.
as for your thread, thanks.. Ive been looking for a LS6 pic to see the difference. As for someone saying that the LS6 block as the "windows" so do I. Its a round hole bored between the cylinders and I have the ol' LS1 block.
But... it does look like some got the LS6 block if your block is a dark grey cast and none of the "bullseye" marks........

The ls1 block is a bit diff. than the ls6. The round machined hole that I think has been described is in all the ls1 block, the ls6 block has a "cast in" window at the bottom of all the cylinders that helps the cylinder to cyl. breathing. We did alot of R&D while working on the re-sleeve project and there were some diff. found after destuctive testing was done. Not all but most of the ls6 blocks did sonic test up a bit thicker in some of the critical areas.
Hey guys i have a 2000 model WS-6 i bought it used in late 2002. well i looked at my block and i dont have the bullseys like the ls1 block. Does this mean i have an ls6 block. Maybe right before i bought it they replaced the engine or something.
IF you dont have the "bullseye" and its the right color, you just might have the ls6 block...... the color and the bullseye seems to be the biggest / easiest way to tell from what this whole thread is about......
NOT all LS1 blocks have the bullseye's, ribs in valley, or shiny smooth casting.
My 98 LS1 block casting # 12559846 doesn't. It looks identical to the LS6 block externally except internally it doesn't have the "cast" in window between cylinders.
I even installed the LS6 PCV cover without any modification.
So, does anyone know what the scoop is on LS1 block casting #12559846 and why the casting is different from other LS1's???

KNOW WHAT......sounds / looks like it depended on the day of the week, month ect, or what ever G.M. felt like doing at whatever time when they put the engines in our cars..... Hell they probably dont even know why they did what they did

Only way to tell is by the casting # (located behind the drivers side head as seen in the picture below) or taking her apart.

Go to the Directory
There is a pic of the "window" at the bottom of the cylinder the pic is blurry, but visible. I also have shots of a few numbers I have found so far. I haven't taken the block out of the box yet but will do if you guys want me to get more pics.
Thanks and hope this helps.
