There is no performance advantages of the LS6 block. The later 01 and 02 LS1 blocks incoperate the same features such as the breather hole in the top of the crank journals to help with the oil. They list the same part number for both blocks because they can only get what GM is having produced that year and you can use either for the same application. It doesnt matter.
