Default LQ4 Questions - How would YOU do it..

I want to build up a LQ4 for my truck i'm looking to get 450-500HP. How would YOU do it?

Junkyard rebuild?
Buy a bare block and build from there?
Buy a fully assembled engine?
Get a short block and go from there?

I know the stock crank can handle the HP but I also know the pistons on the LQ4s are one of its weak points so if i'm going to replace the pistons anyways is it worth getting a junkyard engine?

I have the time and i'm more than capable (at least I like to think that I am). I don't have a set budget but I would like to try and keep it down below 4-5K without the tranny and I want to be able to swap it with my 4.8L and GO. I've been searching and searching for the last week all over forums and I can't make up my mind. Hopefully you guys can help point me in the right direction. I saved up some money and I'm finally ready to start this.

Hope to hear from some of y'all. Thanks

If it were me I'd do Mamo 235 heads, 230/238 cam, tbss intake, dual exhaust, and if it's a clutch fan, convert to electric fan.

Edit - and I'd do something to bump compression

I actually have this saved. I was looking into doing this just wanted to see what others would say and how they would approach it.

I sent Tony an e-mail to see what a pair of the 235's would cost and I actually was looking at a Lunati Cam the other day with IN/EX @ 230/238. Would you do TBSS over FAST? Thanks for the reply much appreciated.

Find a cheap block or short block. Under 500 if shortblock.
Ls3/l92 heads for 1000 new or cheaper if used.
Ls3 rods/pistons for around 200$
Machine cost to bore etc should be around 300
Throw a carb setup on top and meet your goal.

I was thinking tbss because I was guessing truck. The fast is better but the tbss should be adequate

Gotcha was just curious. It's a 06 Silverado 1500 2WD that's turning into a pre-runner but also staying my daily driver. I just want to have fun
