Question Cam or Stall?

I have a full bolt on car with 3:73's, 2800 vig, and a 224/224 .581 .581 cam. My question is next should I step up to a PT4000, or a bigger cam? It is really a daily driver, I don't really go to the track very often, and I don't street race, just some occasional light to light, and highway punches. I just want to go faster.

Send your Vig to PI to get restalled to the #6 pump (3600) and get a cam

all the way stall. go with a lucky #7 pump from vig (P.I.). now you will have a looser stall but you wont have any problems with bad idling or stumbling. plus you will get a lot more performance.

I think that I would have to go with a higher stall converter.
I went from the Vig 2800 to the Vig 3200 and it was still very streetable and still “peppy” in the low RPM range. With your car being a daily driver I would not go above a 3500 stall. From what I hear the Vig 3600 is as loose as the PT4000. IMO a 4000 stall is just too mushy for regular street driving. I would go with the Vig 3200 or a TCI 3500.

A vig 3200 is as big as I'd suggest given your stated goals. Since the restall is free if the converter is fairly new, so that and the thunder cam. You feel the cam more on your highway punches above 80 mph.

Vig 3200 is a good "happy medium", for your goals that is.

I don't know what it is with the yank, but a friend of mine has a pt4200 with a stock cam, and it is everybit streetable as my vig, with a Chris R. tune.

Okay, I still haven't decided, but --Yank SS4000 vs. PT4000?

PT v/s SS has been discussed alot lately in the Auto section. Check it out.

Basically, the PT4000 will have better shift extension and efficiency with worse drivability and a slightly softer hit off the line. The PT should be the *slightly* quicker converter in the 1/4 (I'm not convinced of that yet since I really haven't seen anyone do with a PT4000 exactly what I've done with this SS4000.)

I got a cam before the PT400, im just waiting for the PT4000 to go in, hopefully in the next couple of days. I say get the PT400 and later get a higher cam to match it.

All you have to do with a stall to get rid of alot of looseness is raise the STR. BUT it requires you get better tires. But that should be a given anyways.

MY PT4000 is just as streetable and alot more enjoyable to drive than my VIG2800, VIG3600, and Yank SS3800 were.

I forgot your name *Sorry*, but we've spoke before when I sold my duals.

Anyways if you'd like to drive one with a PT4000 in it give me a call and we can meet up so you can check it out. Oh and we'll be on street tires PM for the number.
