Default Crankshaft compatibility

I am working on a 4.8 vortec out of a 2000 silverado and I broke off the bolt in the nose of the crank. This is a stock crank with the thicker flange. I know most of the 4.8/5.3 engines are very similar, my question is what crankshafts can I use to replace the stock one? Can I go to the local junk yard an pull one from a 5.3?

Thanks
Jeff

You can't use a 5.3 crank with 4.8 rods.
You can use a crankshaft without the thicker flange IIRC.

As long as its a 24x crankshaft, anything should fit in that block without issues.

4.8 has an oddball stroke in the ls family. It's around 3.22".

You can just drill out the bolt and remove it. If you don't feel up to it you could take to a machine shop I don't think it would cost as much as replacing the crankshaft

Default EDM Stud Removal

Hi, I go to the local EDM shop, Jerrys Tap & Drill, for bolt/stud removal.

I was going to look into taking it to a shop but was just checking if there was an easier option

If you go with a 5.3 crank, you will need the 5.3 connecting rods, then use your 4.8 flat top pistons. And you'll have a high compression 5.3. that is my winter project this winter. good luck with what ever you do brother.
