Default Anyone ever have pressure issues with delco (pf48e) filters?

I noticed my oil pressure fluctuating . I would start the car cold ( 87 degrees ) and oil pressure would be around 43psi then by the time the gauge read 160 degrees my idle (850rpm) pressure would be around 18-20 psi and I would see the gauge surge a bit . I changed to a k&n filter last night and started the car and I still had 43-46 cold pressure but as the temp got around 180 I was still at 38/40 psi telling me the filter was not working . I did cut my filter open and the unfiltered oil had a shimmer to it ( just did a cam and spring swap ) but nothing that was really sticking to the filter media .

The E stamping at the end indicates a bulk order. The old pf46 ad Delco had a better design. The E series internally is identical to a fram/stp/autolite/ economy filter. I always use a Mobil 1 or k&n

+1, that's my understanding too

Mobile 1 or Napa Gold (WIX) are my filters of choice. I would also use K&N

I've had a cheapo Fram collapse and fall apart before in my 91 RS when the car had a 305 TBI. Oil pressure would drop to almost zero and then surgery. Changed oil filters and the issue disappear. I don't use Fram anything after that experience.

The 'E' (E-Core/Economy-Core/Environmentally Friendly) means the internal filter cage is made of nylon/plastic, while the Non E-Cores have a metal cage, I think the Anti-Drainback valve is different to. They did this to cut down on cost and making it easier to be broken down when being recycled. I prefer to use a Wix or Mobil 1 if I do not have a Non E-Core on hand. I have heard of issues when used for an extended amount of time (Over 5k miles) when the pressure increases cracking/breaking the internal plastic cage. Someone over on Bobistheoilguy said they are intended to be changed every 3k miles as well as the E-Core has a max PSI of 70, while the Non E-Core is 90 PSI. Don't know if there is any truth behind that.

I still find regular PF46/47/48 at Walmarts even now and then. When I do find them I buy them all to stock at my shop since they are so cheap.

I remember years ago GM was insisting on original equipment oil filters or they might void the warranty-there were app. some over seas knock off's out there that looked like originals. Interesting to learn their are diff Delco quality filters, I have had problems with Fram and oil pressure, pretty much been sticking with the NAPA or K & N
