Default 243 Heads how much metarial removed?
Hi there ppl how to measure a 243 head surface?I gaved the heads to a shop for resurfacing the heads for gm mls gasket.I just try to figure out how much metarial removed.I need the stock lenght.

The stock length is 4.750" from Valve cover rail to deck. Measure both sides and 4 corners as far as you can with what the rail will allow.

I know a few companies (AI for example) also machine the valve cover mating surfaces. So this may give you false readings of how much was taken off the combustion chamber side.

depending on what exactly you intend to do with the information once you get it your best bet might be to have the chambers measured for CC instead of worrying about how much was shaved

Default Use those calipers
We see alot of variation come into the shop but we use calipers to measure the distance from the deck surface to the exahust side bolt boss. Untouched 243 heads come in @1.620" to 1.625". Hope this helps.
