Default oil plug valve( barrel valve) removal ??

Have the transmission out and was told it would be a good idea to change the oil restrictor / oil barrel valve. I don't see anyplace to get a tool on the valve and I ,m concerned that it maybe brittle after 18 years. Don't want to crack it in there...... Any helpful ideas are appreciated

Thanks
BobH

Got air? Blow it out, just make sure to cover the port with a rag to catch it...

Are you talking about the galley barbell? There is a allen plug directly above the right side of the oil filter housing (I forget what size) pull that plug out after you have removed the rear cover on the engine. You can stick a screwdriver in that hole and pry against the galley barbell and pop it out of its hole.

I've only removed mine with the oil pan already off, and I always just use my right angle dental pick, just stick it in the hole that leads to the oil filter.

Thanks...I wound up using a 90* pic and small hammer, tapped pick on the edge and it worked loose.

Thanks,
