LS6 Help with Cam Specs
Building my first ls6 motor. Talked to texas speed and they gave me the specs 231/234 .629/.615 111LSA or the torquer v4. Looking for a bigger, nice sounding lope, low to mid , and focused on torque overall. Any suggestions on specs for a bigger lope.
I'm in the process of building my first LS6 as well, with similar goals because I'll be using for track days on road courses rather than drag racing. Ended up going with WS6store's new "high lift" version of the GM ASA Cam. Cam card specs were ultimately 227/236 .600/.600 w 110lsa +3. If it sounds anything like the GM ASA (which it should) it's very lumpy and should have plenty of low-mid range torque. Check youtube on the ASA for the sound.
Oh yea...my heads are also milled .030. No impact on sound but it has an impact on torque and the size of the cam you can run. I wouldn't have had the piston to valve clearance for anything bigger than the WS6Store cam anyway.

Ok just so you know, more lope means more overlap, and more overlap means less torque down low and even in the mid range depending. Since you want something with more overlap than the V4, then you will need the right supporting mods to offset the difference where you'd normally lose. Are you prepared to do that?

I'd go for a TSP 228R or a BTR stage 2. My former neighbor has a 231 cam in his 6L GTO and said it's at the edge of being too aggressive for a street car. I talked to a guy at a cruise with a Tick Pollutor cam in his TA and he said it bucked at 1500 rpm.
- Steep gears if it's a M6 3.90's - 4.10's
- High stall and gears if automatic. 3.73's and 3800 - 4400 stall
- willing to spin it high
- Good competent tuner
I have never been at 1500 rpms, maybe he needs to improve his setup.
I also have a very good tuner.

Our high lift asa chops pretty hard and is easier to work with than the larger 230s cams and likely makes as much power with the new lobe design vs older/diff comp lobes.
Its confirmed also it will work with .030 milled heads like z28ss said.
