Default Starting my reassembly and have a plug question

I started reassembling my 1998 LS1 and noticed a hole in the front of the the Block above the timing crank gear. Can someone tell me if I need a plug for this hole? I don't remember it being open. The machine shop may have removed it. If I do need a plug for it does someone have a part number.

Default Block WINDAGE Hole

Hi, this hole is for block breathing, leave it open.

Please install the Black Cam Chain Dampener and post that picture.

i have a 1998 so the black timing chain dampener doesn't fit without drilling and tapping. I ordered one from BTR that's a direct bolt on. I'll post pics when installed. I'm waiting on some parts now.

Default RDE Chain Guide

Hi Troy, this IS the type of QUALITY "tech" that will put LS-1 Tech at the top.

GOOD WORK !

Now to add, this hole in EARLY AL blocks is a WEAK area allowing cracking.

My guess is that the GM engineering was OK for a 400HP engine NOT GREATER.

The cracks I have seen are between the shown hole AND the Main Saddle.
