Default How bad did I mess up?

While torquing muy heads down, I accidentally over torqued 3 bolts. The sequence is 22lbs, then 90* on all, them 90* more on the long bolts and 50*on the 2 short ones. I accidentally torqued one long one 30* too far and the 2 short ones one the passenger bank went to 90* instead of 50*on the second pass. Am I going to be ok?

Were these stock bolts? If so, you will have to replace the ones over-torqued, they are torque to yield. By over torqueing, they have yielded too much, as in over-stretched.

Yeah... they're stock... was hoping not to have to do that... Can I just replace those ones? Leave all of the others in while replacing them?

That I'm not sure of, as they would not be torqued in sequence any more. Maybe someone can chime in to help here?

As noted, I would replace the whole set on that side. Better safe than sorry.

The head gasket should be ok, right?

Yes. Honestly, this thread is a big reason to just go to ARP.

When you do the replacement, do one bolt at a time and keep the head gasket compressed

Man I'd go on the limp and say it would be fine! The right thing would be yes to replace it. But we have reused stock bolts and headgaskets and ran the hell out of them with no failures. Now if this was a customer car etc I would be eating the cost of some bolts!

use some copper spray on that head gaskest when you re do the bolts

I would send it if it was my personal ride.... based on what sloppy and some folks are doing re using bolts and such....

If it is going to keep you awake at night re do it

Just run the motor. You'll be fine.

Most people torque the angles by drawing a dot at the 12 o'clock position on the bolt head. It ain't exactly a precise science.

I'm liking the one bolt at a time thing. I truly thought about running it, but it would kill me if I had to redo it in the car. And knowing my luck lately, I would. Thanks again all.

Agreed , but should he start with the over stretched bolts first or start in the center at number 1 of the normal torque sequence pattern . Hopefully #1 and #2 aren't stretched and he can work from the center out.

I was planning to start with the #1 bolt and put it in to the torque spec (1st step) then do the same for #2 and so on. After they were all replaced and torqued to 22lbs, then continue with the degree specs.

If that's incorrect, please let me know.
