What is the intended purpose for these heads?
If they are going into a performance build, you might think seriously about sending them to Texas Speed and Performance for their Stage I port job for $750 plus any spring upgrade. Widely acknowledged here as a good deal.
If, however, they are going into a fairly mild "stock" build, then any local machine shop that's worth a hoot can do a good 5-angle(2-head, 3-valve) valve job.
You will gain either way.

I've got a comp cam that's a 530/534 lift 112 lsa that's going in with the heads. I think hotrod network had an article where they used this cam, but used the carbuerated setup. Claimed 415hp on that setup, with their longtubes. I think they just upgraded the valvetrain for that cam and kept whatever heads came on there 2004 truck. I know they have some nice accessories on also, but still sounded like a good gain.

IF they kept the heads that came on the 2004 truck, that engine was CHOKED!
What are the duration numbers on your cam?

220/224 @.05 inch duration. It was suppose to be a cheap build, Google, cheap 5.3 build.

Wow. With that cam, a good set of 243/799 heads will really wake it up! Plus a good port job as I described will give it even more. Ahh.... the possibilities....

Mine cam in yellow too. off a truck. I never tested the spring pressure to confirm they were the better type.

How much lift will the yellow springs support?

Gentle lobes only. up to .578 as used in the GT2-3. But not the .550 used in the TR-220 if you recall that cam. it was a steep XER type of lobe. use the pressure spec. for the cam.

So here's a little update, as I mentioned this was kind of a budget build so the stock 706 heads are going stay on for now. The cam is changed and I have the dorman ls2 intake that a lightly touched up with a dremel and speed engineer shorty headers.

Even porting the stock heads will show good power gains, plus you keep the small chambers, keeping the compression up.

Yeah I know but it's crazy how fast the money adds up on these "budget" builds, lol. On the plus side, I'll dyno it like this and when I finally do something with the heads, and maybe more porting on the intake or different headers, I'll dyno it after.

If you can ever scrape enough together to send them to TSP for a Stage 2.5 port job (no Stage I on truck heads because of the small valves), they will be pretty close to ported 243's.

Just sone more updates. The car just needs a tune now and some rear leaf springs, lol. Drove the car from the shop back home, about 10 miles, through town. It drove pretty good whie keeping it around 30mph, but it bucked around quite a bit while coming to a stop, idle was pretty rough while in drive but fine while in neutral or park. Throttle response is a little slow, but hopefully the tune will take care of that, as you can see i dont have a maf sensor either snd the fiter is just temporary.

Nice!

Try to ditch that air filter ASAP, I had one of those style many years ago and the damn metal cap down in the center came loose and got lodged in the throttle body.
