Default 2007 silverado heads

Ive read a lot of information on cylinder heads, but I want to be sure before I buy them. I found some in a junkyard and asked the guy what the casting number was and he told me the numbers he had were 12564825, now is that a 799 head or something different? Thanks

Should be 799s or 243 on the newer 5.3 engines. I wanna say they started on 2007.

And just to add to brandon6.0's post, 799's and 243's are identical functionally. I believe the difference is, 243's are die-cast, and 799's are sand-cast. Neither is an advantage, just two different casting methods.

Oh bouy. Well need more information to give you accurate answer to your question.. Here's why 2007 had one of the widest applications of engine option . There were 2 body style in 2007 , nbs and nnbs or recyclers call classic and new . Classic 5.3 will have 862/706........... a nnbs 5.3 will have 799/243 .The casting number is only 3 or 4 digits in the case of a L92s .The numbers the junkman gave you is a gm part number for a bare 243 head , so go figure that one.

The heads should have the casting number on them, right? I wasn't sure why he gave me that number, I figured he'd look at the heads and find the number, unless they're still in the truck and he was busy.

The casting number is located in the lower right corner ,just outside the valve cover rail wall. If the engine is still in the vehicle it's easy to see from the passenger side , as it will be towards the front of engine. On the left side it's usually more difficult to see as it will be close to the firewall. Request the yard to shoot a pic , and send it to you , I always verify before I buy !

The junkyard is only about 15 minutes from me so I'm going to go there tomorrow and check them out. Thanks for the help.

That’s a great price, if they are not hurt. Good for you!

You should measure for pushrods anyway, just to be sure, so just as well! Nice job!

Thanks, I plan on having the heads looked over, and maybe have a little work done to them too.

Looks like you have some exhaust bolt to remove any others down under the face

There are just two exhaust bolts that need to come out.

How much would you think it would cost to get the heads cleaned up and a valve job? Ive talked to a couple of good shops around here and was just wondering.
