Cloyes Torrington bearing clearance issues

You do have to install the bearing with the small side toward the engine so the "cage side" that overlaps both outside circumference and inside is toward the back of the gear. That is how it is supposed to work. "
Not from what I see w/ the brg I have in ft of me.
There's a lip on the inner race that prevents the brg from being put on as described above.
The pic above also shows the outer race/ retainer being toward the engine.
When installed that way, the inner race is the same of as the flange on the gear, and the large side is against the cam plate.
Putting it on the opposite way, will expose the edge of the outer ring to the cam retainer plate...
