RPMSpeed 5 ls engine test for 2018 (but wait there's more)
As a sponsor, we feel it is our duty to develop new products, revamp a few, and add some excitement to the game!
This coming year, we will have 4 engines built specifically for testing. After that 3 of them will be for sale!
These will all 4 be built on a REAL budget. Not some bs magazine build that uses dated tech, expensive solid rollers, $1000+ intakes, or $3000 heads.
The builds will be simple, will be tested on the same chassis dyno, and will all use relatively the same parts. Every engine will use the same intake, same heads, same valvetrain and same cam (except one). Truck oil pan and stock pickup with tube girdle. Stock style balancer (likely ati). Stock truck accy setup. Brand new TSP Headers for 6.0l trucks for highest flow. No cats. Undecided on catback. Spectre cai for trucks. 3 bolt dbc tb. Dorman truck intake ported by RPMSpeed. 8.1l injectors. Truck harness. 0411 computer tuned by hptuners.
Heads - our new 243 heads with stock 64cc chamber and our LEADFOOT stainless valves (2.000/1.571) No porting, no hand touchups. Using our RPMSpeed heavy duty rockers.
Valvetrain - ls7 lifters, ls2 lifter trays, our heavy duty RPMSpeed pushrods, Pac1218 springs, stock viton valve seat/seals, cam will be a brand new prototype RPMSpeed cam....numbers coming soon.

The 333 would OBVIOUSLY be a waste with such a small cam being that everyone will want to see it rev to the moon....so i am planning a different cam for it while utilizing a pac1219x for better high rpm control. It will still be in the truck test platform, so it will use the truck intake and headers etc.
I will be posting total cost soon on each of them.

I LOVE how you guys are stepping up and trying stuff many of us can only think about. And like you said, no high dollar magazine article stuff, just good solid, common sense builds many would think of building if/when the time came.

Our complete rebuild kit will be used on the 347/333/372 and run $735 for the billet timing set and ported pump upgrade. That includes everything BUT rods, crank, and lifters. $699 for normal parts.
The cam kit is $515 for cam and pac1218 springs and $549 for cam and pac1219x springs.
The scat i beam rods are $299
Icon pistons are $649 with rings
Ls7 lifters with ls2 trays $130
Scat crank $899
Hd rockers $215 without bolts
243/799 Heads with stainless valve upgrade and seats cut for 1.571 exhaust valves and new valve job runs $999 (shipped)
Dorman manifold...jury is still out
Tsp 1 3/4 headers and Y for trucks $499.95
Of course you can do this with ANY set of 243 heads, but we do want to showcase some of our newer products as well!
Machine shop labor and prices will vary so i cannot quote them of course

The stroker build is $298 (rods) + $899 (crank) + $649 (pistons/rings) + $200 (bearings) + $130 (lifters/trays) + $515 (cam kit) + $320 (gasket kit) + $65 (ls2 timing set) + $75 (std pump) that is $2951. Call it $2899.
Of course REAL budget is a jy block and just throw a cam in. Id rather have a fresh clean slate, so bore,clean, and new bearings etc for my taste/peace of mind. If youre going to do it, do it right and dont spend money twice.
Adding more pieces to the package does give more room for savings of course.

Small update
The dyno test mule is an 01 ex z71 xcab truck. 0411 comp with an nv3500 trans 3.73s and g80 rear. The reason is, well i already own the truck lol and swaps will be considerably easier into it and manual trans will eliminate any auto trans/tcc loss etc.
It will have a factory style clutch so no fluffing the numbers and run full accessories on all of the setups.
I am going to try to dyno the 333 with both our new truck cam AND newly designed high rpm cam. 7k max seems about the limit i feel safe unless it makes more power above that. Its not made to be a super high spinner, but everyone wants to see high rpms out of short strokes, so why not?
Tires will be smaller than oe on the truck to keep the drive shaft happy but will still use stock z71 rear rims.

Small update.
Had a few people ask about forged 4.8 rod option. A few days of searching only shows a 6.250 rod with a .927 pin. That is the biggest issue really, the only 2 rods avail are the gen3 and gen4 rods.
BUT we are going to modify this rod for use with floating pin .945 pin pistons. It will mean measuring deck height and likely cutting .010-.030 off the deck surface but that is the easy part right? Then youll be set up at EXACTLY 0 deck and can use a thinner gasket to change quench and up the cr a bit as well! Or just gain ptv clearance also.
I will be documenting everything on these engines as they are assembled and machined.

As we are getting closer to 333 assembly, we will be kicking around ideas for cams for the 333 and possible 5.1l 3.905 bore 4.8l crank and are open for input. A few guidelines though.
- Cam will be built for hyd rollers ie ls7 lifters or better, no solid roller.
- must be able to use a beehive spring such as Pac1219x or Manley 221438 or PSI 1511ml.
- does not have to be an actual existing lobe (yet)
We will be designing our own lobes for this and custom specs...and no we wont be calling it the high lift cup cam or high lift showroom stock cam...sorry to spoil all the lowkey jabs ;-)
We will be aiming for a safe rpm of 7200 on this setup UNLESS it keeps making power. While this isnt a "max effort" build, it will be very different and aimed more at straight out racing so have some fun, feel free to explain why. In the interest of staying on a "budget" and knowing that most would use them anyway, it will be using morel 6504 lifters set as close to .050 preload as possible. 11/32 Manton pushrods will be used also, but remember beehive springs only. 243 unported heads with our stainless LEADFOOT valves (solid stem) 2.000 intake 1.571 exhaust. They may be milled but not sure on actual measurement and chamber cc yet. Springs will be shimmed to within .050 of coil bind or as close as we can get.
Stock thickness head gasket and guaranteed 0 deck. The heads will be rounded out with a new rocker arm we are working on. Standard ls rocker body so solid slipper style tip with roller trunion.
We want this thing to spin..but on a quality budget. It is the oddball of this build so we have got to make it stick out.
I get too long winded on these things. Sorry.
So throw some ideas back and forth!

This is going to be an awesome test. Especially interested in the all stroke 360 results. Sounds Torquey

The truck forum said to use our high lift asa cam. while that is tempting...i just dont think it would do what we want with this particular engine. maybe if i do the 5.1l i will use it in that, but the larger bore and cid deserves a larger cam.

I CAN flycut the pistons, but would rather not. Milling the heads .020 max may be in play though.
Im waffling worse than a drunk frat guy at 2am in IHOP.

Since the ls2 333 has taken on a mind of its own, i have decided to change it up just a tad. Going to use 6405 morel lifters and a beehive spring still but likely the 1219x. Also we may upgrade the intake valve to a 2.020 instead of the 2.000 for higher rpm breathing. Port will still be as cast on 243/799 heads but the valve size could make a difference there. It is evolving a bit.

I must say if you build a 5.1L i would be glued to this thread lol thought about building a bigger bore 4.8 for my camaro before i got the ls1. wanted to be around 5.0L so all my 5.0 H.O. decals mean truth I am however very interested to see how all these engines pan out, that 333 has my interest as well.
