Default Waste of time?

I'm currently running a TR224 cam with TSP Stage 2.5 heads and I'm looking for more..

Kinda considering the Torquer V3.. When I put the TR224 in, the car was a daily driver. It's not anymore.

I keep toying with the idea of turbo, but I have too many hobbies, so I can't bring myself to come off the funds for that..

Anyone?

Yeh, right now it's got a VIg 3200.. Been thinking about swapping that out for something like a PTC 4000...

I would go with the torque v3 and the ptc 4000.

That would wake it up considerably

Big difference power wise and price wise between a different cam and a turbo lol. Guess it all depends on your goals and budget

Yeh, I've got waaay too many irons in the fire to be putting turbo money into the Trans Am right now. I'm vehicle poor.. LOL

I think I have literally driven it about 60 miles in the last year.. It just sits in the garage now. Plan to change that this summer..

I hear ya man. Being that money is an issue, you might wanna consider a basic nitrous kit. You could get a real basic used kit for not much more than a new cam swap and make 10 times the power. Just a thought

I wouldn't say it's an issue, just don't see putting the $$ into a turbo. Cam swap wouldn't be any big thing. Just need to decide on something.

Keeping up with a nitrous bottle would drive me nuts. Had a kit for a while and sold it before I installed it.

I guess it boils down to is gaining maybe 10-15 hp worth the time, money, and hassle to you. Because that's about what you'll gain by switching the cam

New cam + More stall you could see 100+ hp at wot and after the shifts.

How high do you spin your motor?

Upgrading the cam is not going to yield 100+ more hp if that's what you were implying.

I'd go with the cam and the converter and tune.

Lol, no.

To clarify, I was saying a higher stall will make a world of difference. A 4000 - 4400 along with the v3 will yield very nice gains considering stall speed + shift extensions compared to the 3200 he is currently running.

I doubt he is making much power at 3200 rpm's and would also benefit from higher shift extensions from a different converter.

It was a rough estimate but what I was getting at is say he spins it to 6500 rpms, from a dig he sees it flash to 3200 rpms where he is making maybe 250 whp? Where as if he were to go with a different converter he could be making 330whp at 4000 rpms? Then we get to the shift extensions where with the 3200, if spinning to 6500 be is probably seeing rpms drop to probably around 5000 rpms as opposed to a 4000 stall where he would see around 56-5700 rpm shift extensions and be making much more power at Wot from a dig and after each shift.

That's the direction I was going with my post

I've thought about upgrading from my TR227 as well, but I know I'd have to flycut, and I'm not sure I'm willing to pull the heads to do that for another 10-15 hp. I'm saving for a rear, and can still get a few more ponies from a FAST 102 setup. If I pull the heads I'll likely look at going aftermarket in order to get some real gains. You all know how that goes though. Where do you start and stop HAHA!

How much did you have to flycut to fit that cam in with .030 milled 243's?

I'm also running a .040" head gasket.

I cut .030" valve reliefs on the intake and exhaust side.

I’m kinda leaning this direction. I think more stall would definitely wake the car up at least for the butt dyno.

The car is a 100% street car, never hit the strip and I typically don’t beat on it too hard. Sounds like a waste, I know. LOL

I'm not sure on your total mod list, but you could do things like a Fast intake, ram air setup, and any other little bolt on mods that you don't have

I went from a tr224 to a cam motion 228/232 and could definitely feel the difference. That being said, you're chasing pennies.....go for dollar bills, go turbo.

Yes, if you’ve only driven it 60 miles in a year it’s prob gonna be another year if you tackle the turbo project. Enjoy the car and get other projects done till you can invest your time less divided on the turbo project
