Default Max depth flycutting stock Ls1 pistons?

Just like title says. How thick is the piston?

I have no personal experience with this, however I believe I've read older posts where guys have cut .100 with no I'll effects. If you've ever seen a chipped piston, you'll notice that they are fairly thick up top. I'd imagine that you could go more than .100, but I don't know how reliably.

I'd be more worried about making the top ring groove edge too close to the top of the piston, as that's less distance then the thickness of the crown.
OOPS! I thought you were discussing milling the piston tops! My bad!

I've personally done the .100" mentioned above. Doesnt even get close to the edge of the piston as mentioned above either with 2.02"/1.60" valves and cutters. I'll see if I can find a pic

Only way to be sure is sonic them thoroughly before they go under the knife.. and +1 above note!

i think there's (very) roughly .250" of material before it would break through. not that you should ever, ever get anywhere close to that.

i'd be wary of going .100 in.

Thanks for the info, not sure how much I need to cut yet. Once I get the cam and lifters I’ll be able to measure. Hopefully I won’t need to cut out a lot.
