Default Ticking noise. Need some input

Car is a 2000 Z28 with 93k miles. Today I drove the car 60 miles all freeway (car drove fine 50-60psi oil pressure) and when I got to my destination the car was ticking weird, kinda sounding like a lifter. When I went to leave 45 min later, the car was still warm and the noise was completely gone. Drove the car back 60 miles and I got the same noise. Here is a youtube link of the noise

Lately and today I have noticed the oil pressure gauge being finicky moving back at forth with a twitch around 45psi. I just figured that the gauges issue was the sending unit. I'm not sure if that is related to this noise or not. I know this isn't piston slap and the car was at operating temperature while video was taken. Any help would be appreciated. I'm going to pull the valve covers tomorrow and see if I can find anything.

If the noise goes away for a few min when it is a cold start up, might be a bad o-Ring on the oil pump pick up tube. If it is bad it will intoduce a small amount of air and cause the lifters to get noisy. Or it could have a bad lifter. I would start with a fresh oil change and see if it acts the same. If it does sound the same time to dig into it.

I just did a fresh oil change last week 5w-30 synthetic with K&N Oil Filter, oil is super clean still about 300 miles on change. What would cause that O-Ring to just fail when its constantly oiled?

So I started the car this morning, 50 degrees out and the noise is completely gone. I didn't let the car warm up just let it run about a minute to listen for the noise. So this makes me think it probably is the O ring on the oil pump causing this noise. How bad is it on the engine to run it like that at cruising RPM's 1500-2000 if for some reason I need to move the car? I also read about some oil additive called like TransX which is supposed to be an o-ring sweller or something? Does anyone have experience with that?

It won't hurt anything other than being noisy to drive it. I've used the transx and it worked great for a very long time 75k miles. K&W makes Transx and they now have a product just for the engine called K&W® SUPER TURBO™ Engine Oil Stop Leak. Might want to try that.

When my oring was bad it did exactly what yours is doing. Quiet then noisy and the oil pressure gauge was acting funny at times. When it was pulled the oring really didn't look bad but it was flat on the edges. Engine was completely quiet after changing it, well that was until the rag the guy that changed it left under the crank blocked the pickup tube.....................

The guy.. is his name RockinWS6

Fast 95 Z28, several people have said that when they had a bad o ring they had a lot of bubbles in the oil on the dipstick, since the o ring was picking up and mixing in air.

Hell no I didn't let the rag in there but the guy that did is a member on this forum. He knows who he is, all he can say is ITS NOT MY FAULT????? He put it in there but never removed it but hes not taking responsibility for it. Bill is going to be in the 2k range. Pieces of rag got into everything because he stuffed it down between the crank and windage tray. Huge mess to clean up.

I wouldn't say lots of bubbles but they were few on the dip stick every time I checked. As far as the bubbles they are very tiny. Can't miss them, also the passenger side front lifters get noisy because the air gets pushed to the frt of the oil gallery.

Almost have the car all back together, just waiting on a balancer installer tool. Here is the O-Ring I found didn't look to bad, but was a little hard. The only defect I could find was in one of the pictures, it looks like a little dent.

With O-rings, if there is ANY doubt whatsoever, use a new one! NO place to be cheap....

Oh yeah, I put in a new black O-ring with a LS2 Timing Set/Chain and a Melling M295 standard oil pump

Its been a long week, got sick and haven't been able to completely finish the car, but I was able to get the balancer and water pump on today. I pulled the fuel pump and ignition fuses and cranked the engine until I had oil pressure. Once, I saw I had pressure I fired it up and I have 60 psi cold oil pressure. I'm pretty sure thats higher than I had before the new pump so I'm happy about that. I hope it fixed the issue.

That o-ring that came out is flattened out = no good. Glad to see you changed it out.

Just drove the car and got the car hot. I didn't hear the ticking noise anymore which is great. Now I have a squeal coming from my serpentine belt somewhere. While I was putting everything back together, the back washer on the idler pulley was on backwards and it kinda nicked the metal that the idler rides on. This is the bracket that holds the alternator and idler pulley. It has that short piece of 1" machined metal. The pulley bearing still feels good when you run your finger on it and put pressure. The noise got significantly louder with RPM. Another thing I noticed is my oil pressure gauge was twitching only when I turned on my A/C or when the fans would kick on. Do you think I need a new oil pressure sending unit?

I think I might need a new belt or tensioner?
