Default Better cylinder head...

Got a C5 with PRC stage 1 heads, torquer V2 and Fast 92. Makes 425whp with a good powerband. I like the cam and intake but is there a better cylinder head I can put on it? If I could gain 20+ with a better head I would do it. Within reason of course. Not $5000 set of heads but I'd spend $2000. Thanks.

“Stage 1” heads are usually the bottom rung in performance cylinder head upgrades. You might want to ask about other options, like a “Stage 2 or 3” ported head from PRC or other vendors.

I was going to start calling around to vendors but I like getting input from all you knowledgeable people.

Whatever heads you choose make sure they are at least the same combustion chamber size or smaller or you may not gain or possibly lose power due to a drop in compression. The heads you have could also have been milled to bring the size down and you won't know it until you measure them unless you have some paperwork on them already.

Trickflow 220s will be around that price range. Supposedly a great head. I’ll be giving them a try next season

that was going to be my next question. How far to mill without PTV issues.

The only way to really know would be to measure.

OP. Id recommend going to the PRC 227cc Aftermarket Casting. I'm a TSP Dealer so if youre interested I can get you setup with a set, It would easily gain 20 tire over the Stage 1 243's

$2k for 20 hp is lousy hp/$$. At that point you're halfway to a blower/turbo setup and could get 200 hp.

Airflow research is the way to go. IMO I would stick with what you got and run a 100-150 wet kit. But if you don't want to run the giggle gas then call AFR.

True, after heads, cam, intake and headers, I'm nearing a stroker shortblock in parts and labor.

I would suggest the MMS 223 sportsman heads from Tony Mamo. with 11.0:1 minimum comp
you will pick up 25+ at peak, and more importantly for a street car torque & throttle response
everywhere under your curve. They start as TFS as cast 220s and Tony adds his hand finishing
and custom VJ ~about $2300.00, they will work Great with your cam and intake. At least
$500.00 less than the fully CNCd MMS 220s which also require roller rockers which increases
your cost even more.

what kind of price point? How do I know which cc to go with and headgasket for optimal compression ratio? Thanks

For like half the price you can make 5 times the power with a basic 100 shot. I'd do that instead

not really a fan of nitrous. Just rather have the engine making all the power it can all the time. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Nothing is wrong with nitrous, just like going the turbo route the tune can make or break the car.

https://www.briantooleyracing.com/tf...ast-heads.html touched up by Tooley. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.
