Default Please please help!!! Wtf is this piece

What is this race/bearing/ bushing. Motor is an LS6 out of an 04 ZO6. Bought to put in my wife’s 56 210 Chevy. Had a 4L60E built for the car and I’m having a hard time getting the converter to mount. I pulled the pilot bearing and replace the rear oil plug and main seal while I was at it but this little race is keeping the snout on the front of the converted from sitting right. I’ve tried using a puller and I can’t get this thing to budge nor can i find anything on the internet. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like the pilot bearing for a manual transmission.

Pack the space behind it with grease. Find a metal rod that fits as tightly as possible in it. Slide it in and whap it with a hammer. As it starts to come out, keep adding grease.

I took the pic before I removed the pilot bearing. Pilot bearing is gone now and btw on the ls1 u never want to use the grease trick. Someone had done it before and damaged the freeze oil plug in the rear. I’m talking about the larger race looking piece that has a cut in it where I tried to whack it with a flat head.

it's not a big deal to replace, but yeah. no grease or mashed bread slices, lulz.

i tried using a blind hole puller in reverse to reinstall a pilot bearing once, when my n00bnezz was much higher, and hilarity ensued. i use a seal installer now like a good little boy.

Its not a blind hole, why do people keep suggesting to just pack it like an old SB.

As ddn alludes to, absolutely do not do what RB04 states or you'll have a shitload more work on your hands.

If you carefully grind that smooth you might be able to install a new pilot and run with it. Just remove very little material at a time.

You're talking about that larger race that's in the snout, not the actual pilot bearing. Not sure if others saw that.

Take a punch that is pointed on the end and hammer it between the race and the crank, it'll fold the race or crack it/break it and it'll fall out. That's one way I've done it many times, if the puller fails or I can't get a bite. If you go this route pull the ***** and everything out first, like it is in your pic.
