I'm planning on building another LQ4 long block for turbo. Would these pistons and rods work for that? Or should I just look for dished pistons to keep the compression down?

I’ve seen this brand in some Ford mod motor stuff. In one instance, the owner tried to lean on it with some boost and ended up blowing the engine up when the pins failed. The piston pins were really thin and just shouldn't have been used for that application.

Do you think it would be worth going to a tool steel pin or are the pistons and/or rods just not up to the task?

I'd also go for a top steel ring if that' snot an option with the kit.

BTW,
Can you take pics of the pins for us? And if possible, can you measure the thickness, too? Just curious.

Out of curiosity, did you weigh those pistons? They look heavy O.o

I wondering how much these weight compared to the stock pistons and rods? did you have the engine re-balanced? got it running yet?
