my car is a 99, when i rebuilt the original motor i went with 8740 arps and the rods needed a hone.
Ill measure clearance for sure but fr what I've gather it's not a problem unless you over torque them.

Is it worth running high quality rod bolts with the Gen 3 rods? Aren't the rods the week point anyways?

one more question, is it true that you can run these ARP/Katek rod bolts at stock torque and avoid resising assuming the clearances are within spec on the stock bolts to begin with?
Thanks!

e38 genIV ECM. It was a major pita to set up, but its a fast processor and I think the 58x is a WELL worthwhile upgrade for anyone who wants to spin higher than 7K. I have seen other guys flirt with 8k using a 24x 411 PCM set up on speed density tune ups though.

Weak is not a word I would use to describe any LS bottom end. My very first LS1 I did a Katech rod bolt swap, no resize, stock bearings, spun to 7K limiter and that engine is still running champ. Its had numerous head and cam combos thrown at it now and never missed a beat or had the bottom end opened. Since then we have built a lot of different combos and never changed the rod bolts and spun to 7K without issue. 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 deals. I only had one true LS1 although we are working on another as I type. I wouldnt worry much about the bottom end but I do now pull a rod cap off every engine I get to inspect the bearings and if the engine is together when i get it I do a leakdown. Ideally I like to see 10% or less but often used engines cold show 15%+- 3 or so and seem to run decent. If its 20 or more its an oil burner and needs attention.
