Default What is this sound? Piston slap/lifters?


it seems to be louder in colder air temps, as it was a little cooler this morning than yesterday, although it doesnt go away once the engine is up to temp.

that was my original thought, Main reason I stopped thinking that was because of the difference in loudness depending on air temp

Check the AIR check valves, sometimes they get noisy.

Get a mechanics stethoscope, take the hard part off and just use hose part or just get a rubber hose and listen around
exhaust manifold, get someone to rev it up a little while listening, check all bolts that hold exhaust manifold on, seen more than a few of those broken.
Check where pipe connects to manifold.

I have one, Ill try that technique, I did find one bolt loose on my header and tightened that up, Ill have to check the rest and use the stethoscope.
