I am in the middle of rebuilding a set of 243 heads and came across some old valves i purchased years ago.
I already purchased new chrome valves but would these nitrate ones be better than chrome coated?
They seem to both weigh the same.
(i wont have nitrate coated exhaust valves)

Also what would the advantage over stainless be? The valves that came out of the heads had over 250k miles on them and they just started to develop a lip.

I asked the same question to my buddy the physicist a while back. Nitrided valves are smoother and don't flake like chrome if the valve stem flexes. Not sure one is better than the other. Note, you can get nitrided stainless valves as well.

Nitrate coated or chrome coated valves
