Default New Summit Pro LS Cams

On Independence day, we launched the newest additions to the Summit Pro LS Cam lineup. Made in the USA steel and manufacturing-with very nice lobe designs. They are designed around commonly available spring kits etc. Most here are familiar with the individual valve events and their affect on performance and behavior. We've designed the cams with the opening and closing points in exacting increments. This makes picking a cam for your needs more repeatable and less of a guessing game. This is the basic article on the Summit Pro LS Cams. The valve events are off to the right of the tables, so you may need to scroll over if you are viewing on mobile. There is also an article on Valve Event theory you may enjoy. Lastly, there's an article on the Summit Pro LS manufacturing process behind these cams. Let us know if you have any questions.

the turbo ones looks pretty tasty. probably more duration that I would like, but at $260 it's gonna be a good competitor to the "sloppy stage 2"

Our valve events aren't common, but there are reasons for this. If you guys are looking for other combinations, we are open to looking at them. PM us as needed.

These cam profiles look much better than the first run of LS cams you guys had. Some of the lobes on those had me scratching my head.

That's appreciated. An LS nut moved into our R&D department that thought the same thing. The new part numbers start with SUM-8706 and go up to SUM-8714. Development on these and other LS parts will be ongoing.

I love it, I have my eye on that Turbo cam myself. I have a brand new 408, Block, pistons, bolts, studs and many more were purchsed from you since I'm in Reno. The turbo cam I have now is fairly aggressive, meant to create
BIG power from my Stalled Auto, TH400 408ci engine with Ported 317 heads. However, this is a street car and I'm going to be getting the bronze rocker bushings to replace the Summit Needle trunnioin upgrade I just installed
and get a slightly less aggressive yet matched valvetrain built for longevity.
You guys are the best. I've bought so much **** from you guys since you moved into my home city about 24 years ago.

My how time flies...we just hit our 50th anniversary. Thanks for being a loyal customer. The new Texas Store is one of those examples of quick access to parts when they are needed. When you're ready on the bushing style trunnions, check out the new SUM-141560 kit. They're gorgeous.

Who is machining the cams? That's stage 2 would do great in my vette. You have springs and pushrod packages?

Summit Racing can't disclose our vendors, but the cams use American steel and are machined here in the USA. The stage two is going to be a good cam for a lot of people.

As for springs, the SME-174003 dual spring and retainer kit is 140lb. at the seat and 380lb. @ .600 lift. If you're really going to be wringing it's neck, the TFS-2500295 kit goes to 150/420 and uses a PAC spring. The TFS-2500300 would be the Ti retainer version.

We want customers to measure pushrod length with a checker like the Comp CCA-7702-1 before ordering. Pushrods like the TFS-21407400's would be a good match. They are available in .050 increments by changing the last 4 digits of the part number.

We're working on handy kits for people to put things together. Examples include:
SME-K-14300 (Bearing style trunnions, installation tool, Seals, Locks, and .610 lift beehive springs)...All made in the USA
SME-K-143002 (Bearing style trunnion kit) -Made in the USA
SME-K-141560 (Bushing style trunnion kt) - Made in the USA
SME-906011 (Installation tool) - Made in the USA
SUM-143012 (LS2 spec timing chain)
SUM-HTLSKIT (LS7 spec lifters, trays, and bolts)
SUM-150106 (Retainer plate and bolts)-Made in the USA

Another thing people are doing are buying the rockers already assembled which saves time in the shop and the cost of a tool. Both Cathedral and Rectable Port styles and there are two types. The Made in the USA ones use a GM body, our trunnion kit and we moly coat the body. The overseas ones are cast steel bodies. They're pretty nice too and more affordable.
SUM-141553 (Rectangle Port)
SUM-141556 (Cathedral)
SME-K-143023 (Rectangle Port) -Made in the USA
SME-K-143021 (Cathedral) -Made in the USA

CMB-09-0027 (Full VVT Delete Kit with 3 bolt sprocket)
CMB-09-0028 (Full VVT Delete Kit with 1 bolt sprockt)
CMB-09-0030 (Full AFM Delete kit -cover without PCV)
CMB-09-0031 (Full AFM Delete kit -voer with PCV)
The AFM kits include valley cover, head bolts, lifters, trays, head gaskets, water pump gaskets, balancer bolt, and assembly lube.

SME-K-906008 (balancer tool)
SUM-901064 (crank turning nut)
SUM-G6320 (Gen. 3 front cover)
SUM-G6321 (Gen. 4 front cover)

Summit makes a lot of great stuff and these cams look awesome, but I am going to be blunt. Your trunnion rocker arm kit with bearing was garbage. The machining was awful where the bearing rode on the trunnion and the hardness wasn't even close to where it is needed for a bearing race. Maybe they work as a stock replacement, but not for a cam with a bit more lift and duration. You guys can do better than this!

Thank you for your input. We value and appreciate it. In general, we favor the bushing style kits over the bearing style. To your point, we have a bushing style kit that's very nice...part number SME-K-141560. That's the part number we currently recommend, Others have good luck with the bearing style in general and continue to use them so we'll keep them going as they are better than the bearing kits offered by some others.

I'll send you a PM so I can get the mileage on your kit, running conditions and date of purchase. Then we'd like to get them back from you to test (if you still have them). We'll determine if the hardness is in spec (58-60 HRC and .030 min. depth). If it is in spec. and the oil wasn't contaminated, we'll determine what else could be done to increase life.

I would love to see this come to fruition. Plenty of complaints over different products from different manufacturers, but rarely do we see a real “failure analyisis”, much less a manufacturer/vendor willing to do it.

Agreed. I no longer have the kit as I switched to a CHE kit and could not be happier. I have a customer that manufactures bearings and they performed an analysis on the trunnion. It was 50 HRc at the most and the finish on some of them was between 29 and 32 Ra. Definitely not bearing quality. The bearing were Made In USA though, which I was quite surprised about. With a better quality trunnion, this would probably be a cherry kit!

I live about 30 minutes drive from Summit in Tallmadge, Ohio and have been purchasing from them for 35 years now. They are a great place to deal with even with their large size. I had an issue with the starter I bought for my LS3 and it was past warranty. I called them, had a new one the next day, and I returned the old one under warranty and I did not pay a dime for shipping or anything.
