Default Pitted camshaft

Bought a used camshaft, the guy said it was lightly used... lol yeah right! There’s is a food amount of pitting on 4 of the loves. When I run my fingers over the pitting I can’t really feel it but it’s there even after trying to buff it out. Would you run this cam or do I need to get my money back?

I don't think I'd put that in my motor.

Also looks like it would produce the "whine" problem. Probably why it was for sale in the first place.

It doesnt look like it was run long, but it was run wrong. Too much preload maybe? Not enough valve spring and caused some bounce? Oiling issues? Dirty? Who knows but something not jiving there

I've run them like that, but only in JY motors I dont care about.

They never get better. Sometimes don't get much worse, but usually they do.

I would trash it. Also depending on what you bought, the associated lobe lifter(s) will be trash as well.

x2 its all fubar now. Cams are only case hardened so once the pits or cracks start? game ova. Same goes for lifter rollers. Bummer, but easy to fix while apart

What type of cam is that? It looks like a re-ground. Were they welded etra material on the lobe area the re shaped it. It looks like weld porosity. I would use it. It dont look too bad. Had a buddy with issues on his dod 5.3 and one of his lobes was scored a bit worst then that. Someone recommended him some sorth of additive, it escapes me now. But it was supposed to restore bearing surfaces and ****. I was skeptic, but he showed the cam after about 10k and the damn lobe looked way better then before.
Personally i won't put anything on my motor other then a quart of trans flud the week before the oil change. But thet's just me.
Again, i'd use that cam.

Good news, the guy gave me a full refund and said I can keep the cam since it’s damaged and for wasting my time. Not bad, maybe I’ll get it reground and throw it in a cheap drag build, but I’m not trusting it in my ls1

Regrinding will remove any surface hardening, unless you are going to have it re-heat treated.

Yeah I’ll do some research and see how much money it will take to get it ground and rehardened. If it’s too expensive I’ll be getting a junk yard motor and just throw it in that and run it

Send it off to delta cam in Tacoma. I sent them a wiped put 224r and then reground it, fixed the bad lobe and made it slightly more aggressive....an option if you didnt spend alot on it that is.

cost me $154 shipped.
