Pitted camshaft
Bought a used camshaft, the guy said it was lightly used... lol yeah right! There’s is a food amount of pitting on 4 of the loves. When I run my fingers over the pitting I can’t really feel it but it’s there even after trying to buff it out. Would you run this cam or do I need to get my money back?

What type of cam is that? It looks like a re-ground. Were they welded etra material on the lobe area the re shaped it. It looks like weld porosity. I would use it. It dont look too bad. Had a buddy with issues on his dod 5.3 and one of his lobes was scored a bit worst then that. Someone recommended him some sorth of additive, it escapes me now. But it was supposed to restore bearing surfaces and ****. I was skeptic, but he showed the cam after about 10k and the damn lobe looked way better then before.
Personally i won't put anything on my motor other then a quart of trans flud the week before the oil change. But thet's just me.
Again, i'd use that cam.

Good news, the guy gave me a full refund and said I can keep the cam since it’s damaged and for wasting my time. Not bad, maybe I’ll get it reground and throw it in a cheap drag build, but I’m not trusting it in my ls1

Regrinding will remove any surface hardening, unless you are going to have it re-heat treated.

Yeah I’ll do some research and see how much money it will take to get it ground and rehardened. If it’s too expensive I’ll be getting a junk yard motor and just throw it in that and run it
