Piston slap maybe? At least you don't need to buy a bunch of parts like me.

what the hell would cause it to get that loud, then go away.. i mean one time when it did it I was worried someone was gonna stop my car and ask if i heard the loud azz ticking lol

we still dont have the cam out yet.. the damn crank bolt is a PITA so we should have that off tomorrow night. Im not in a rush, but all the lifters looked fine though. Hell, maybe all this time it was the power steering pump ticking or something.

well the F11's going in anyway so this wasnt for nothing

I dunno . . . crank bolt is easy, just put a breaker bar on top of the frame on the driver side, then hit the starter, works every time!

With the starter off, you should be able to put a pinch bar through the starter hole into the flywheel teeth while another guy (the bigger of the two of you) turns the bolt. For me, I need a piece of pipe over the handle of a 3/4" drive breaker bar to develop the 230 ft-lbs of torque it takes to turn one of those.

I have the same problem. Clacking comes and goes. Hot, cold doesn't matter.

Since you have the heads off can you mic the cylinders and see if they are out of spec? Look for signs of scoring!

Also check lifter bores for excessive clearance. Perhaps they're letting the lifters bleed down to quickly.
