I would just see if you could get a stock 2000 cam from the classifieds here. Or even look online or at GM to see how much.

I say 2000 but 1998-2000 had a tiny bit more cam than a 2002. It's negligible but it's probably 5 horsepower

reminder stock springs are the weak point in an ls1. if you want a good cam for a 5.3 i think poster thunderstruck has good suggestions for that appl. if your looking for a cheap cam well the ls6 - 2002 are probably out there but they require better springs at least stock ls6 springs good for 570 lift. this post was started back in 2004 , you still haven't upgraded cam yet?

I have read that the LQ9 cam is the best overall stock cam for the 5.3.You still keep your lowend torque and pickup 40 fwhp. Should be pretty cheap to find.

I just read the article and it's a good write up. I've been contemplating doing a cam swap in the Camaro and using that cam in my pickup. This write up gave hard numerical data to support the different grinds. Thanks.
