I wouldnt even bother with it. You can find a LS6 cam for CHEAP and make much more power (and many others for that matter). sorry i dont know the specs, but they were posted here before, just do a search.

I called Lingenfelter and they said they can give me a take out LS1 cam and springs for $150.

The LS6 cam and springs are $332. I've also heard the LS6 cam gives 30+ RWHP gains, but that is pure peak, and you lose 10 ft/lbs in a 5.3L silvy. 30rwhp is great, but I can't give up torque..... especially given that a higher stall is not in the near future.

Yes there were 2 or more? different cams, heres what I have from my LS1/LS6 performance book by Christopher Endres
98-2000 pt#12560965-.500/.500 209/198 ls119.5 117/122
01-02 pt#12561721-.479/.467 207/196 ls116 117/115
I think the smaller 01-02 cams have something to do with emissions and thelack of EGR for those years. Hope that helps you.

Its a worthless upgrade as the cams are very similar. If you noticed a power increase, I'd be suprised. Just spend the money to buy an aftermarket grind. With the right grind, you'll actually pick up torque down low.

If I got an early LS1 cam, it has: 19 more degrees intake duration, 7 more degrees exhaust duration, and about .04 more lift for both exhaust and intake

To me, the cam isn't THAT similar.

If some1 could tell me the LS6 cam doesn't lose low end, I'ld go with it.
By the way, it has 28 more degrees intake duration, 13 more degrees exhaust duration, and .09" more lift for both intake and exhaust. Seems like a big jump, and I'm scared I'll give up a lot of low end.

You can probably pick up either LS1 cam for $25 or less. I've seen people just give the springs away.

Yes, I may put the LS1 cam in my 5.3 truck...

Hey man, I checked the "ls1 info" in your sig, and it says the 01 ls1 had the vortec truck cam in it.
I saw somewhere that the stock 5.3 cam is a 190/191 duration cam, but an 01 ls1 cam is a 207/196 cam.

?

Where in the world did you get that the LS6 had 28 more degrees duration on the intake?

Ok, here is what I saw that the Vortec cam truck specs are:
190/191
.466/457
114* LSA
That's what I saw on some site...

That's how I figured the LS6 cam had that much more duration

The LS6 cam is only 207 on the intake so 207-190=17*, not 28...trust me, regardless of what the duration differences are, the LS1 cam is not really a worthwhile upgrade. You will gain a decent amount of peak hp with the LS6 though. There are other specs that you are not looking at...LSA, overlap, and ICL. They all equally play a role where and how much power will be made. A broad LSA means less overlap, which means less midrange torque...just what a truck needs. I'm just trying to save you the trouble of installing one and then being disappointed.

Thanks yall...

So I want a low LSA for torque?
Point me in the right direction.... to a cam that isn't gonna be 300+ for the cam alone, but will serve my purpose.

Thanks,
Derek

LSA is not all you need to figure out torque....
you have to know ALL the specs

to be honest... I think soem of the 220/220 cams (maybe MTI's stealth cam)might be a good aftermarket cam for your truck or something in the 215/215 range...

you will get a really good powerband, a substancial gain in power, and will probably be ok with no tune and will still Idle nice(even though a tune will really squeeze out all the power possible)
not to mention the tone of the engine rumble will be much heartier and more beefy sounding like it is a lot stronger....

and it will still pass smog in every state with a good tune

HYDRAULIC ROLLER: Good Idle. Excellent low-end and mid-range torque horsepower. 1800-4800
270°/279°
212°/221°
.510"/.510"
.300"/.300"
116° Sep 112° Int C/L
84015LUN

This is the cam I put in my buddys 00 silverado. He picked it up fairly cheap. It was a good power increase across the entire RPM range.
I installed a set of LS6 springs with it.
I copied the info from the Lunati site.
