so my current project (R32 skyline+LS1=broken) is down with a spun rod bearing. should be fixable by machining, bearings and replacing other small items ($700 maybe...) I also have a slightly used LY2 short block at my disposal (still operational). my question is in terms of longevity, is the newer 4.8 a better starting platform. this is the second time in a year that i have spun a bearing on that LS1. should i just sell the short block ls1 for $350 and put that into a Lingenfelter converter box. i will use all other accessories, manifolds, pumps...etc from the LS1/5.7 on the LY2/4.8.

I would stay with the larger bore, lighter aluminum block and install some ARP rod bolts while you are getting the block serviced if I were you.

i completely agree with you on that but i also know the newer 4.8s respond so well to boost.... and I'm tired of rebuilding this LS1, but I'm so partial to it. i love the bigger bore, more base power. but truck parts are cheaper LOL..... the struggle is real

Doug, the only problem is that no one in my area has money HAHAHAHAHHA. i cant even find someone to buy the LS1 short block with minimal damage for $350.
