All I can tell you is that a buddy of mine who has a LS6 swapped 2000 Camaro, has a BTR stage 3 cam and that thing flies for having stock Z06 243 heads
2000 C5 M6 with Z06 243 heads and BTR platinum 660 dual springs w. Ti retainers, Cometic 0.040" head gaskets, LS6 intake, VMax ported throttle body, Vararam CAI, LT headers, high flow cats, Z06 Ti axle back. Stock bottom end.
Cam Motion custom grind: 228/232 .612 .600 111+3 108 ICL (intake open 6, close 42) ECL 114 (exhaust open 50, close 2) overlap +8.0
With this cam and supporting mods what would you predict re: drive ability, mid-range, peak rpm, peak hp, peak torque?
Thanks.
Drive ability - with a good tune, I think it will decent manners and drive well enough.
What would be unacceptable to me is 3.42 rear gears unless the M6 has the 2.97 1st gear. If the car has a 3.42 rear gear and a 2.66 1st gear, I'd be wanting a rear gear that's a 3.73's, 3.90's, maybe 4.10's. I like gear, others might feel otherwise. Also more gear helps keep the rpm up at lower speeds and makes for less annoying bucking if car is a daily driver.
Gain 45-55 whp, really depends on what dyno is used.
Dyno-Jet probably get ~400 RWHP-375 RWTQ
suggest under drive pulley/balancer. ATI is my favorite ideally 25% UD
If keeping the LS6 intake, the 90mm snout by LPE & TPiS will gain some hp.
if keeping LS6 intake stock, a ported stock TB can be worth 2-3 whp.
Please keep us posted sounds like a fun car will become a lot more fun

I remember we were speaking last year since you were interested in running the same cam as I at the time (StreetSweeper HT - 228/232 .614/.600 111+3) but I turned you on to Cam Motion to have them custom grind you the same exact cam but on their lobes. I now have the same Cam Motion 228/232 .612/.600 111+3 cam as you in my '03 Z06, our setups are literally identical and I'm very happy with it. Below is a dyno sheet when I had the car tuned with the StreetSweeper HT and the exact same setup as you otherwise (stock LS6 manifold, stock LS6 heads, LTs, Vararam, .040" Cometics):
I personally haven't seen a stock bottom end LS1/LS6 car with stock untouched 243s put down better torque numbers. It hit 350rwtq SAE at just 2,300 RPM. A lot of useable power, mid-range is really strong, flies on the top-end. I get bucking if I lug it from the +8 degrees of overlap (I have the MN12 trans since mine is a C5Z so steeper gearing than your MN6 - gears may be a wise investment). Cam sounds really good. Wouldn’t want it for a DD (would want less overlap) but for a weekend car it’s awesome IMO.
I'm a bit biased but I think you have a great combination with that Cam Motion cam and the stock 243s.

I have not been on the dyno but the numbers must be close. In a 3rd gear roll against a base C7 auto (advertised 460 hp crank) this car was a bus length ahead by end of 4th gear. This is shifting at 6300 rpm and rev limiter set at 6500 (fear of running higher with LS1 bottom).
I do have some tune related driveability issues to resolve. Tuner has pulled a bunch of timing from 1500 rpm and below, which really did a good job of smoothing it out at low speeds. Problem with bucking starts at 1600 rpm and then completely goes away by 1800 rpm. So I think I just need the tuner to smooth the timing advance between 1500 and 1700 rpm. Bigger issue is hot starts. If it sits hot for a time (so everything under the hood heat soaked), upon restart it will fire but tries to die repeatedly. Requires throttle to keep it running until things stabilize in about 60 secs. It smells rich during this time. So far the tuner has not been able to resolve the issue so any ideas would be appreciated - to me it needs more air when the engine temp is up and it is in open loop. But I don't have HPTuner and I wideband and have yet to be frustrated enough to get it myself....
I am running Ford/Bosch Red Top 36 lb (at 58 psi) injectors which are at 79% duty cycle at WOT.
Thanks Black Bird. Interesting idea to go with gears! I find 1st to be really tall, and 6th is minimum 75 mph (happier at 85, but I get worried about the cops on the hwy). Gotta look into the cost of making the change.
Stealth, talk to Freakls6 here on the forum. He made 454 rwhp on stock heads. Hence the the name "Freakls6" lol
That’s badass. In hindsight I kinda wish I bought a ported FAST 92 to see if I could have hit 450 but going into it I didn’t expect more than 425/400 at the wheels. Stock LS6 heads ain’t so bad.

Actually he has a Fast 92 that's not ported. Should have mentioned that.
