I crush the dowels. With the parting line at 12 o’clock, I squeeze on the 3 and 9 o’clock sides with a set of pliers, then install them in the block with the parting line pointing up towards the lifters. I think you can get .015” or .020” before having to slot the head or intake bolt holes.

that would unshroud the intake valve as good as a Stock ls3 bore wouldn’t it?
