Na lq4 build
Gathering information about to build a lq4 for my 00 Sonoma mostly track time driven very little on the street I was thinking about doing stock rods stock crank flat top or maybe a dome piston i don't mind running race fuel if needed and a good set of heads possibly genx 245 64cc to bring compression up and probably a custom cam I'll be running a carb with single plane intake any information would be appropriated new to the ls the truck is almost complete and running with a stock 5.3 once I get the bugs worked out I'll be ready to make some power

Welcome to LS1Tech Gus!
Come on its Ol gus first post on here.
Sounds like you got it all figured out though Gus!
When you say track time im guessing you mean dragstrip.
Have you thought about just putting a turbo on the stock 5.3? it would make more power for less monies
These are a top quality piston at a great price. The cheapest I have found them is around $405 on Amazon.

It would be wise to get a set of Gen IV Connecting Rods, which you can find relatively cheap on here.

As mentioned above LS2 or LS3 block ideal to get some weight off the nose. Since your NA and looking at a set of pistons, it may not be all that much more expensive to do a set of rods and 4 inch crank. The LQ4 has shorter sleeves than the LS2 or LS3 blocks. So I would favor the LS2/LS3 block in case you want a stroker later. The LQ4's are workable as strikers but requires very careful piston selection to avoid slap and rock with a stroker.
Ideally a set ported LS3 heads flow very well and are inexpensive. CID makes killer carb intakes.
Would like to see pics of the truck soundssweert!
Welcome to the forum Gus

Since your set on keeping it N/A
If the budget is low I would get a set of stock rectangle port 823 heads, swap in a set of flat top pistons with valve reliefs or fly cut some stockers and biggest cam you can fit lol

Not necessarily a budget build not looking to spend a fortune but willing to spend the money to do it right. I like the aluminum block idea to save weight, but I already have the iron block not really planning on building a stroker. The reason I was wanting to run the cathedral port heads is I already have a vic jr for the 5.3. I started n/a witch is the plan but I have a plate kit on the shelf that will probably end up on this engine
