Question Oops, wrong oil!

I was in a hurry to leave just now, and accidentally poured a half quart of Mobil1 0w-20 full synthetic oil in my T/A. I'm guessing it won't hurt anything, since I run Mobil1 5w-30 normally, what do you guys think?

no worries, it's still oil so you have nothing to worry about.

Just top it up with a 1/2qt of Mobil 1 15w50 right now and you'll be fine.

Only do this if you have space (you are under the fill mark). DO NOT go over the fill mark as this will cause LOTS of windage problems.

I would say just go drive it and next top off use thicker.

Not true, the LS1 can handle an extra quart of oil no problem, in fact GM recommends it for those that road race! Many people on this forum run extra oil, I've heard of a number of them which even go as much as 1.5 quarts over with no ill effects. With some types of engines you can't do this, but in the LS1 there is enough room that this extra oil is not a problem.

.....ok....go for it......

I went over by a quart once and had a number of problems till it burned/leaked back down to the full mark (clouds of smoke, pushed the front main seal out, popped the dip stick up).

I'm not going to tell anyone they are wrong but I personally would not/will not do it.

And this happened in your LS1? Like I said, tons of guys out there run 1 to 1.5 over in the LS1, with no ill effects. Just as mitchntx, he's been running 7qts in his 98TA when roadracing, since the car was new, and he's got over 90k on his motor now.

I run 3/4 of a quart over full all the time and don't have any issues at all. This includes street driving and ORR.
