Default Another Newb Question - Took Valve Covers Off

Took the valve covers off, passenger side clean as a whistle, spring, rockers, etc. look absolutely brand new off the assembly line. Drivers side, not so much, full of a light layer of carbon, whatever it is. Is this cool or, not so cool.

Keep in mind the PCV system pulls clean air through one valve cover and dirty air out the other cover although I'm surprised there isn't oil residue on both of them. How do the rockers look?

Everything looks absolutely fine just a light residue over everything. I pulled the drivers side off first and thought, wow, looks really clean, just a light residue. It wasn't until I saw the passenger side look brand new that I wondered if there's a problem. No chunks of anything whatsoever, just the residue.

Zackly what he said: one said has fresh air being pulled into it, the other has the dirty crankcase air being pulled out. What you have is completely normal and looks fine to me. No problem.
