oil pump gear not going on completely

Something is clearly not correct there if the cog for the inner oil pump gerotor gear will not set in place.
Pull it off and have a look at the keyways and the groove in the cog...
Some material may be gouged or disturbed...

Yes, try lightly tapping it back. It should mate against the timing sprocket. If it won’t move, as suggested above, maybe the key is burred, or not set in its register properly.

On second thought...if you haven’t degreed your camshaft, I’d wait until that is done in case you need to turn your bottom sprocket to another slot.

Ok some tapping got it seated so we are good. So I have an uneasy feeling about this cloyes adjustable set, only because I can't figure out how it holds the timing after you adjust it. It also seems odd how the bolt holes are egg shaped, I mean I know it has to be that way, but what prevents the Allen screw from moving thousands of miles down the road. Wish I could use a standard set, but don't think I could get 4 degrees advanced with the stock set up can i?

If your ordering something else, consider a billet set like a Rollmaster. WS6Store has them for best price I could find. Comes with a nice Iwis chain. That will give the +4 advanced your looking for, and a lot of other degreed key way settings that won’t move. Perhaps your camshaft already has been ground with some advance built in?

No I went back and the card says it has the 4 degrees advanced ground in so I should be good. I'm goona go ahead and order a new gm cam sprocket. I shouldn't need this adjustable and I already have a new ls2 chain. But I should probably replace this. Somehow didn't see it until after I put it pn, but that means pulling off the crank pulley
