Default WS6 Store oil pump ????

Getting ready to order a few things. Is there much of a difference between their RPM Speed high flow ported oil pump $95.99 and the GM Performance LS6 ported oil pump? Wanted to see beforehand if there was any notable difference or not. Only thing I can see is the RPM Speed ported pump comes with 2 o-rings and the other looks like it has none. Also, are most still going with the LS2 chain or something else?

I purchased one on black friday for a good price. I haven't installed it yet but I was told by RPM/WS6 Store that their castings are better than the melling and GM castings with less imperfections. Looks like a good unit out of the box. I was pointed to the Nmotion timing chain from them as well.

FWIW - My 99 TA had a Katech ported LS6 oil pump for 15 years, 132,000 miles, spinning up to 6,800 rpm and never had any issues. I assume the RPM Speed / WS6 Store ported LS6 is a similar high quality ported unit. They have an excellent reputation for quality products.

However, for my 416 went with a Mellings after learning the factory Gen III/IV pump can have cavitation at higher rpm and lose significant flow. I've read porting the stock units reduce Cavitation but I've not seen details of by how much.

Whipping air into the oil is probably the last thing a hydraulic lifter LS7 or aftermarket needs at 6,200 to 7,000 + rpm.

Given that many of us had good results with the factory oil pumps over the last 20 years, I really don't know if the cavitation issue matters much for street car that spends 99% of the time in the lower rpm.

LS1 & LS6 Oil Pump Cavitation - 1 gallon flow lost by 7,000 rpm

I think you hit on it exactly. Cavitation occurs at around 62-6300 RPM. I doubt most street running goes over 6k on any regular basis.

Thanks for the info guys! After talking with WS6 Store I opted for their ported LS pump. I ordered my cam, springs and pump last night. Gonna have to hold off and get the rest later so I dont **** off the wife.
