Default Cam suggestions for a 5.3 l33

Hi everyone, I know this question has been asked a lot, but with all the different options out there I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask anyway. I currently have a 2005 Chevy Silverado z71 with the l33 HO engine. She’s all stock with the exception of a CAI, Flow master cat back exhaust, and a tune. Im looking for a cam that will provide a good band of power through all rpm ranges as I tow very rarely, but also want to gain upwards of 70+ hp if possible while remaining reliable. Also any suggestions on springs and lobes would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brock

Peak to Peak gains of 70 horsepower probably won't happen. You might pick up a 70 horsepower gain over a part of the graph where the L33 has started to fall off hard. A 70 horsepower peak gain is going to be a pretty big cam for a truck.

You could pick anything in the upper 220/low 230 range on intake/exhaust duration on a 112-114 LSA and pick up 70 horsepower up top where the stock cam has started to fall off.

Ahh ok I see, would this still provide me with a decent low end pick up?

The issue is with the stock converter and a 5.3. You don’t want to get into an issue where it pulls a bit better up high, but it’s a total dog at 1900. If you are locked into the stock converter, we wouldn’t recommend going more aggressive than our Stage 1 Truck .550 lift version p/n Sum-8719. Reliability is king and these were designed to run with $80 Ls6 springs or better. You will be very happy with the acceleration because our goal is maximum power applied from the converter stall on up to an extended redline.

The stage 3 high lift from Texas speed is a great setup that will bring up your hp and tq.
I use it in one of my 2500hd trucka and love it.
We offer the kit at $569 for cam springs and pushrods.

Dont be shy of lift there, it will bring up your horsepower and torque with no real adverse issues.
