Default LS1 that wont start!!!!!!

Hows it going everyone.

I currently have 1983 El Camino with an LS1 stuffed inside.

Unfortunately i cant keep it running or run at all.

here is a quick run down oh where i am at.

LS1 block with LS6 cam and heads

Fi tech is my harness setup with trans control

I am going to start back at the basics my checking my timing first and foremost. i will be pulling the head off as well as the front timing cover later today to confirm i have cylinder 1 at TDC and the cam gears line up.
My question number one is does it matter what stroke i am on if i have the head off????

Once i go thought and confirm my timing is Good i plan and testing coil packs..

Anyone who can offer any advice of help it would be appreciated also if there is anything you guys think i should be looking into let me know.

Unless you really think the timing is off I wouldnt start with pulling the head.. check the basics. Are you getting spark and fuel? Check your fuel pressure. Does it just turn over or does it try to start? Does it start then die? Have you tuned out vats and emission stuff?

"Fi tech is my harness setup with trans control "
As in a Fitech throttlebody system, or?
Also, there's a diagnostics forum, for these kinds of ?'s.

#6 cylinder is the one you seek, dot to dot, grasshopper. Ls1/Ls6 are this way. Being an older greaser (not to be confused with Old Geezer!), I won’t forget my first encounter with an ls1/ls6 cam change. Damn near rubbed my hair off, trying to understand how a cam could be mis-ground in such a fashion (#6 dot to dot is correct...NOT #1).
Have you solved the issue?

Sounds like a cool project and a great swap!

No idea what wrong but I'd start with checking the simple stuff first etc...

Can you turn the motor over by hand to make sure it rotates and isn't locked up? Have spark? Have fuel? All connectors plugged in? Grounds secure? Got all the fuses in? Are all the fuses good?

Is the FiTech set up & configured for a 24x crank reluctor like the LS1 has?

Does the LS1 have a 24x crank sensor plugged in?

We had an issue with my 416 because a vendor shipped a 58x sensor when I ordered a 24x. Wouldn't start or run with the wrong crank sensor plugged in.

Its pretty much impossible to do it wrong all you need is dot to dot line up on the 2 gears.

Crank sprocket (yes, it is NOT a gear, gears mesh with each other) only goes on crank one way.
Cam sprocket only goes on cam one way.
Putting sprockets dot to dot only happens one way.
So WHO gives a rip which cylinder this applies to???? It's only gonna happen ONE WAY!!

#1 and #6 are both at top dead center at the same time, just happen to be on different strokes. So, when lining up your dots on the sprockets at 6 o-clock and 12 o-clock, both cylinders are up.
