2005 Tahoe acting sluggish
I had a code for a MAF a while ago and installed a $40 knockoff new MAF, and it never quite cleared up the symptoms and the CEL became intermittent. Now my scanner won’t connect for some reason so I can’t check if it’s a new code but towing the boat yesterday it felt super sluggish, granted it was 90 and humid out. Felt like it was starting in 2nd gear but it wasn’t.
Has anyone had issues with aftermarket MAFs? I’ve been noticing this thing is super temperamental about wanting Delphi or AC Delco parts only, but before I spend $87 on a Delphi sensor, has anyone experienced similar issues?

Cheap MAF's are junk, I cannot count how many of them I've seen cause problems, the number is that high.
I'm a tech and have been for 20 years. I will not put in cheapo MAF's because I have seen so many of them fail or read way wrong and cause problems.
One thing that I never thought I'd say is if you need to save some cash get a Duralast MAF from autozone. Their parts have gotten really good over the years and we've started using quite a bit of them at the shop because we are seeing such good results from them.
I got a MAF last week for a Ford, the quality brand MAF's were $300, the duralast was $100 and it worked perfect. The truck had a cheap maf on it, and had issues, the duralast straightened it all out. The packaging was even impressive. I still can't believe I'm recommending autozone parts but they've earned it.

Did you try cleaning your original before you replaced it...???
I've fixed several MAF code problems on this vehicle platform with a good cleaning.
These don't have a high MAF sensor failure rate.

Agreed. I'm a tech and never see them fail on those old trucks. I clean MAF's a lot though

I did try cleaning it before replacement.
Actually found the problem... would have been smart to clean my K&N filter at least once in the past 3 years and 70k miles... runs like new! Wish I didn’t throw out that original MAF.

It happens man. Good thing is you'll know next time lol.
I'm a tech and I can't count how many times I've gone to diag something and started looking at complex items and circled back only to find it was something simple like that.
