Think of it like throwing a football. If you throw it at a slight incline it will have a short, long travel. If you throw it at a steeper angle it will go up higher but not travel as far.

Now, try to throw the football so it goes up really fast, goes almost straight across flat, and then falls fast. It is not natural. You would need outside forces acting on it. The natural shape of the arc the ball travels is called a parabola. Shaped somewhat like a radar dish as viewed from the side.

So if you make cam fast off the seat with short lift, the travel path is very unnatural so it is much harder to control. If you simply give it more lift To make the travel path more natural it stabilizes.
