Smile Help Deciding on Upgrade for LS1 Stock

Hello everyone,

I have a TransAm 99 doing a major restoration, the body, interior, exhaust with headers all completed, now, the engine, the engine is LS1 Stock with RAM air intake, which one is a better deal? I want around 400 HP in total:

You can make 400 horses with the factory heads with the right cam selection. Both options you listed or overpriced in my opinion especially in what you are looking for.

LS6 intake
Long tube headers
True dual exhaust
22X cam from summit racing
Cold air intake

400 horses with ease.

Hello,

This is the advice I am looking for

I have long tube headers and true dual exhaust, so I guess I will order the 22x cam and the LS6 intake with cold air.

Thanks,

Make sure when you get your cam you also consider things like valve springs, push rods ect. Trunion upgardes.

You may consider getting a FAST intake just because LS6 intakes are so expensive now

If you do great heads, cam, intake headers you're looking at around 450-480 though.

The LS6 intake and cam will get you 400 like said above, I'm just saying I'm not sure I would want to pay LS6 intake prices these days. If you find one for 200 dollars that's fine but I couldn't see paying like 500. I'm way out of that game though so they may not be 500, however I think I saw them for at least 400 last time I saw some for sell. Then add throttle body and all that and you're getting close to a used FAST price

LS6 heads for around 450 and a FAST intake would be a nice in between with a cam

400hp at the crank or 400hp at the wheel? Big difference.

Thanks for the info, you are right, I did some research, and I'd rather go with the FAST intake.

All the suggestions so far in this post have been in wheel horse power.

Take the above numbers we talked about and add about 50 and that will be your flywheel horsepower. Also, use the quote button so we know who you are talking to.

If you got the money to spend, the hawks kit is nice, but you'll end up making a hell of a lot more than 400, and you'll be well over 500 at the flywheel with heads cam intake headers
