Default prototype ls1 heads 774 casting number

I came across a pair of ls1 heads with the casting number 774. I cant seem to find much info on these, I was told they were pre-production/prototypes.Does anyone know anything about these? Any info would be appreciated.

How do you know they are for an LS1?
Cathedral or rectangular intake ports?
"D" or round exhaust ports?
Aluminum or iron?

Is it possible that they're 771 or 374 and the stamping isn't clean? Both of those could probably be mistaken as LS prototypes based on the timing and style.

I recall seeing a set like this on ebay a while back. Interesting find nonetheless.

If you CC them or anything we would all be curious as to what you find.

The deck surface has notch in it so likely something they were experimenting with early on. The combustion chamber looks small almost like a 706/862 head

There should be a date cast into them in the rocker arm area. I can just barely make out the outline but not enough to read it.

Interesting.. I once came across a set at the local scrapyard that didn't have any casting numbers at the usual spot on the head. Figured maybe a remanufactured set?
