Default Cam help please

Hey everyone, my sons and I picked up a project engine that came with a comp cam but the part # is saying custom grind cam. The fellow I bought it from has passed and I’m not sure if he was building this engine for N/A or boost etc. Anyone out there shine a little light on what this cam is and what we will need to go with it , what stall torque converter etc. Any help is much appreciated

It looks like a mild street cam, which is what I prefer. I think you could use it for either NA or boost. I would pick up a set of springs and pushrods to go with it if you don't have them already. As for a stall, I would recommend a 3200-3600 if you are staying NA.

Id sell it for a 222/226 .597/.599 ;-)

Just by googling that its a pretty basic cam, maybe a "truck" grind. Your stall is going to depend on a few things other than cam (gears, car weight, tire). What car is it?
that cam going in a 6.0L, 5.7L, 5.3L?

I think you want a tighter LSA with a boosted engine.

Great lil cam that will work well for a ton of setups. Including N/A or boost

What size motor is it going in? What vehicle? What stall converter will you be using? Depending on engine size you could use that cam with a stock stall, also depends a bit on the stock stall, the newer ones stall up higher than the previous

Looks like a nice little street cam. I have one similar to those specs in a Pontiac 400 but the LSA is a bit tighter at 110. My Pontiac is also a manual.

I would think it would be decent in a 5.3 or 5.7 with a 2600 converter.

Agreed, a small mild cam. AHELLUVALOT more than stock, but still, relatively tame. It's too big to be a truck cam for most situations. It's just about perfect for a stick-shift car though, or an auto car with a 2800 - 3200 sort of stall converter. I wouldn't want to use it with a stock converter but it would "work", maybe just wouldn't have very much "leave". Looks to me like a N/A design.

You need much better than stock valve springs, and of course you'll have to select the correct length push rods. It should work fine along with stock rockers and all that. It'll benefit HUGELY from headers. Depending on what you're doing it could be a pretty good choice.

It is going in a 97 obs truck ( lowered street) with a 5.3, 4l60e trans (built), and a crown vic interceptor rearend with 355 gears. We are planning on building it for turbo but figured I’d see what this cam is before I bought one. We like the help and knowledge from all you guys.

Not enough gear, not enough motor, too much vehicle, for that cam.

I think you'd be happier with a 212°/218° 112° .550" one.

Trade/sell it to a F-body, Vette, or GTO owner.

There's NO SUCH THING as, I'm gonna buy this ONE cam, and it'll work GREAT N/A, and then I'm gonna "slap a turbo on it" and it will work EVEN BETTER. Can't tell you how many people have gone down that fantasy-land path. NEVER works. A cam for N/A has one set of properties, a cam for turbo applications is COMPETELY DIFFERENT. Buy a cam for what you're doing now; when the time comes for the other, buy a cam for that.

Never heard of putting a Frod car rear in a Chevy truck. In terms of, "Crown Vic PI". Frod 9", of course. Not the other. Not saying it can't happen, only, good luck.

Like RB said that's a considerably big cam for a 5.3, and in a truck.

Would need a stall for sure to be enjoyable. Preferably shorter gears too, and short tires.
