Default 1998 Camaro SS odd intermittent tick

Hey guys,

I have a 1998 Camaro ss M6. When I bought the car it had some bad lifters, turned out it had destroyed the cam as well. With that being said i upgraded the cam to Cleatus Mcfarland Bald Eagle cam, TSP chrome moly PR, TSP titanium dual valve springs, Melling oil pump, and LS7 lifters. So I have checked my PR length with the comp cams too using the EO/IC method and some PR are 7.4 and some 7.375 now (I can go into detail on what cyl has 7.4 or 7.375 if need be. Oil pressure is great, but has an odd intermittent tick that appears to be coming from the passenger side. I know rocker arms will have a little side to side play, however some of the rocker arms have quite a bit more play than the others. I have searched and read just about anything that I possibly could and i am at a loss. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have attached a link of the video of the tick and can take more vids if need be i just want to get this thing going again. Thanks in advance!

I ran it in complete darkness and did not see it arcing to ground anywhere.

another thing you can do is with the engine running, take a spray bottle of water, adjust it so there is really fine mist.

turn the lights off and spray the wires, if there is spark jumping it will show up more when wet.

you could also unplug one coil at a time and see if goes away.

Thanks LilJay, I have ordered some wires. This is just the oddest sound to me, and very frustrating on not being able to figure it out. Hopefully it is just a plug wire arcing

Let us know what you find. Hopefully it's something simple and cheap to fix.

well I finally got around to messing with this I didn’t see anything arcing doing the spray bottle trick. Anyone think it could be a rocker arm?

thanks in advance

You can always pull the valve cover and check the rocker arms.

That doesn't sound like valve train noise to me at all. I'm thinking its a pulley making the noise but to rule it out remove the serpentine belts and let it run for a short spell to see if it goes away.

Just a thought, I had a misfire on my 5.3 on cylinder 4, new plug and wire. I was stumped. I took it to my mechanic to look at. He pulled the new plug and found the electrode was cracked. I was shocked. Sometimes it something simple.
